The Adventures of Tintin: Tintin in the Congo (Collector's Edition)

Written and illustrated by Hergé

In this, the second of the Tintin books, the young reporter travels to Africa, unearthing a criminal diamond smuggling operation run by the American gangster Al Capone (who he will meet again in Tintin in America).

In the late 20th century, Tintin in the Congo came under criticism for both its perceived racist colonial attitude toward the Congolese and for its glorification of big-game hunting; accordingly, attempts were made in Belgium, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States to either ban the work or restrict its availability to children. In his portrayal of the Belgian Congo, the young Hergé reflects the colonial attitudes of the time.. he depicted the African people according to the bourgeois, paternalistic stereotypes of the period - an interpretation that today's readers may find offensive.
