FAQ

For questions pertaining to orders and shipping, please check the FAQ on our Orders and Shipping page.

Q: What kinds of books do you stock? What’s the difference between Woods in the Books and Books Ahoy!?

A: Woods in the Books specialises in illustrated books for all ages, while Books Ahoy! caters more to young independent readers. You’ll find excellent books at both our shops, though!

Q: Why don’t you allow photos in your beautiful shop?

A: There are several reasons for our no photo policy. First and foremost, the nature of the books we sell means that a lot of children visit the shop. As we can’t know where the photos that people take will end up, we prefer to err on the side of caution when it comes to their safety. Second, we want to deter showrooming, a practice that may benefit individual shoppers but which also unethically shortchanges local and small business owners. Every book you see on our shelves was individually chosen, priced, tagged, and displayed to best effect, and our elves put a lot of heart into their work. Third, in a world where an increasing number of people are glued to their phones, we want to create a space and an oasis that people can experience in the here and now.

You are welcome to take photos outside the shop, however.

Q: Are you still adopting used paper bags for customers to use when needed?

A: Absolutely!! We have been collecting clean and dry paper bags since Earth Day 2019 and we will be collecting them for the foreseeable future! If you have paper bags lying at home with nothing to do, send them to Woods in the Books or Books Ahoy! and we’ll put them to work.

Q: Do you hold programmes for children?

A: Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, all our programmes are currently on hold. You can take a look at photos of our past programmes through our Facebook photos.

Q: I’m an author/illustrator and I live in Singapore/will be visiting Singapore. Would you be able to host me for an event?

A: Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, all our physical programmes are currently on hold. If you would like to hold an online event with us, drop us a line at sayhello@woodsinthebooks.sg. You can take a look at photos of our past programmes through our Facebook photos.

Q: I’m a self-published author. Can I stock my books at Woods in the Books?

A: Thanks so much for asking! Before we stock your book, we will need to review it first. You can send an electronic copy of your book to sayhello@woodsinthebooks.sg or mail a hard copy to our Woods in the Books address. (Don’t worry, we won’t reproduce your book or use it for nefarious purposes!) We’ll do our best to reply within 2 weeks.

Q: I am a teacher/principal. Can we invite you to sell books at our school?

A: Of course! Please email us at sayhello@woodsinthebooks.sg with details and we’ll get back to you within one week.

Q: I’m a student. May I interview you for a class assignment?

A: We are happy to help, but we need you to book an appointment in advance. (If you are hoping to score an interview by walking into the shop, we most likely will not have the time to accommodate you!) You may email us at sayhello@woodsinthebooks.sg with your school name, teacher, and a description of your project/assignment.

Q: I am a photographer/I work in film. Can I use your lovely shop as a location for a shoot?

A: Please email sayhello@woodsinthebooks.sg for our most up to date rates!

Q: I am a member of the press. Can I interview you for an article/news segment?

A: Certainly! Please email us at sayhello@woodsinthebooks.sg to set up a meeting.

Q: Are you hiring right now? Do you take interns?

A: We’re always looking for people with a heart for books who can add to our little team! Interns are welcome (particularly interns coming from Arts, Literature, Early Childhood, or Arts Management courses.) Please email your CV and cover letter to sayhello@woodsinthebooks.sg.

Q: Do you sell used books? Can I sell my second-hand books to you?

A: We do not take second-hand books to sell.

Q: Do you offer discounts?

A: We offer corporate discounts for schools. For more information about opening a corporate account with us, email sayhello@woodsinthebooks.sg.

Q: I want to order a book that isn’t listed in your e-store. Can I order it through Woods in the Books and how long will it take to arrive?

A: Email us with the title of the book and its author, and we will do our best to track down a copy for you! Note: Some books may be out of print, in which case we won’t be able to get it in. After we locate your book, it might take up to two months for the book to arrive at our shop due to Covid-19 restrictions on overseas shipping. Do try to contact us early if you need the book by a specific date.
